Text Message/Short Message Service (SMS) Programs Terms and Conditions

This policy applies to the text message service and short message service programs.

By requesting, joining, agreeing to, enrolling in, signing up for, acknowledging, or otherwise consenting to (“Opt In”) receive one or more text messages (“Text Message Service”) from the Consolidated Edison, Inc. companies (“Con Edison companies”), or by being enrolled in a Text Message Service as permitted by applicable law upon providing your phone number to the Con Edison Companies, you accept these SMS Terms (“SMS Terms”), and understand that we will handle your personal information as described in the Con Edison Privacy Policy. Message frequency varies and customer preferences can be used to opt out at any time and you agree to our General Terms of Service.

Con Edison companies will use reasonable commercial efforts to deliver automated text messages to the mobile number you provide. You acknowledge, understand, and agree that delivery of text messages is subject to effective transmission by your mobile service provider. Con Edison companies and the wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. 

Not all mobile phone providers may carry the necessary service to participate. Check your phone capabilities for specific text messaging instructions. Our Text Message Service is offered on an “as is” basis, and: (1) may not be available in all areas at all times; and (2) may not continue to work in the event of product, software, coverage or other service changes made by your carrier. 

By participating in a Text Message Service:

  • You expressly authorize Con Edison companies to use automated or other technology to send text messages to the mobile phone number associated with the Text Message Service. Text messages are informational, transactional, or service-related in nature and do not include advertising or marketing content.  
  • You consent to the use of an electronic record to document your participation in the Text Message Service, where applicable. To withdraw that consent or stop receiving text messages at any time, (a) reply STOP, (b) contact us via phone at 1-800-75-CONED, or (c) contact us via the methods described in the Con Edison Privacy Policy.  
  • You confirm that you are the current subscriber to the mobile phone number used for the Text Message Service or that you are the customary user of that number on a family or business plan and that you are authorized to receive text messages at that number.
