Green Power Offerings from Con Edison Solutions

Renewable energy development will help reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and lower emissions of greenhouse gases. The increased use of more efficient renewable energy technologies is an important strategy in environmental sustainability.

Con Edison's subsidiary, Con Edison Solutions, offers its customers 100 percent renewable energy. In 2008, Solutions increased its green customer portfolio by nearly 50 percent.

Residential customers of Con Edison of New York and O&R may purchase their full electrical requirements with a mix of 75 percent low-impact hydropower and 25 percent wind energy.  For commercial customers, Solutions can supply between 5 percent and 100 percent of their electricity requirements with 100 percent wind energy.  Solutions' Green Power is Green-e certified, a leading national labeling program that sets consumer protection and environmental standards for electricity products. Recently, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) supported the Solutions' Green Power initiative by providing funding for marketing support.

Con Edison Solutions is allowing the company to expand its presence in national energy-efficiency markets. Solutions acquired Custom Energy Services in Kansas, and won approval from the U.S. departments of Energy and Defense to provide energy-efficiency services at federally owned facilities across the nation. Solutions also helped raise the environmental profile of one of New York's largest tourist attractions. The Intrepid Air and Space Museum upgraded its lighting to cut energy use by more than 650,000 kilowatt-hours annually.
