Greening Our Facilities
Greening O&R's Administration Center
During 2008, O&R renovated its 90,400-square feet Spring Valley administration building as a model for sustainable business practices. Improvements included new, more energy-efficient lighting, more lighting controls, window replacements, insulation, and air conditioning and heating upgrades.
The annual projected energy savings for the facility is expected to be roughly $200,000 per year. That means the projected return on investment will occur in about four years. Those improvements represent a carbon dioxide reduction of nearly 1,400 tons per year.
Greening Con Edison Headquarters
New York City's skyline grew greener when we installed energy-efficient lighting in the clock tower of our corporate headquarters. At night, the tower uses 63 percent less energy than conventional lighting, lowering carbon emissions by 19 tons a year. The new lights also last up to 15 years, reducing maintenance costs.
